Don't wear them. Heh. Not because people might think it would look stupid, but because you can't learn Parkour correctly with them. Learning and practicing Parkour is largely about learning, defining, and expanding your boundaries. That doesn't mean getting hurt is good, but if you rely too much on knee pads or something similar then you are developing bad habits from the start. For instance, if you get used to hitting your knees on the ground from doing rolls out of a big drop (which you shouldn't be doing anyway without very much practice), then when you take off the knee pads you will really hurt yourself. The same goes for anything else of the sort like a helmet or elbow pads. This is also why its good not to wear gloves, because you can't rely on them all the time. If your hands are built, conditioned, and callused from training, then you don't need gloves.
In addition to this, if you put on the pads, it takes away the fear. And fear is a very important part of Parkour. Overcoming fear is over half of what we try and learn (expanding boundaries), and fear keeps us from doing things we shouldn't. If we have the technique and the strength to do a maneuver, we should not be scared, but confident. However if we don't have the necessary capabilities to perform such a maneuver, fear keeps us in check. So overall, wearing pads will hinder you in the long run of your practice.

i am more with Maltise on this one, he hit it dead on. You can't really get to know your body and abilities if you always have them protected.

I swear when i find you I am gonna hammer a rusty nail into your eye socket. *Coach Hines squeak* You completely blew off what Maltise said which is a perfect reason why not to. But what do you do? you spit it back in his face, because you have no intelligence. A senior member tried to help you and you throw it away. I don't see you with any forward progress in your life.

Guys, he totally didn't even 'spit in his face'. All he did was ask what was smart to do. And then he said "Because the smart people said so." That doesn't mean he skipped straight to the answer. You shouldn't be so fast to be rude. Just chill, and take his comment for good, even if it wasn't.

no he did spit in his face, he did skip to the answer, because that is just what he does. He got nothing out of what our reasoning was but only to what he was told to do.
