Like guerilla advertising and ideas, don't remember some of the exact things but it sounded like a great idea, putting up a sticker or some other form of media somewhere that would inevitably drive people to texasparkour as a form of recruitment and interest kind of, but thats where the whole legality of it comes in, with the whole grafitti, vandalism, etc. stuff

The main idea (I think it was Aardvark's) was to do chalk scrawl messages with the txpk url in places that would make people think, "How'd that get there?" General PK slogans and ones more specific to TXPK. Using chalk makes it non-damaging and easily cleaned up, but even so, there's that big question of legality, like the man said. Getting permission from owners/caretakers could circumvent that, but may be tricky to get.

The basic idea would be a chalk advertising campaign around the city. Our target audience would primarily be young men and women in their teens and twenties who are inclined toward physical discipline and the outdoors. Therefore, the locations we'd want to target places like city parks, universities, coffee shops, and so forth. The message would ideally be very, very short, able to be taken in at a single glance. More than the text, our message would be in the location: writing our advertisements in places that are inaccessible to most people but still very visible to passers-by. I envision it consisting of only two lines: a tagline followed by a URL. Some taglines we could use: LEARN TO FLY NO OBSTACLES TAKE BACK THE CITY OVER UNDER THROUGH BE SPIDERMAN CONCRETE JUNGLE GYM CHASE ME DOWN SPEED FLOW GRACE So an entire ad would look like this: NO OBSTACLES TEXASPARKOUR.COM Of course, we'll need a full article on the main index page of the website welcoming the influx of new people, explaining what Parkour is and, more importantly, what it isn't. I'm wiling to write it if need be. This may be a good idea anyway since Parkour will be all over YouTube on 2 May. I feel it's our responsibility as members of the Parkour community that we try help the inevitable influx of enthusiasts understand the philosophy and principles of our training. It is essential, I feel, that we have strong involvement from more experienced traceurs (at least a year) to guide newer members. Unfortunately, in Austin, that's more or less just Levi and Brandon, since Matthew moved away and Kiem and Tim are often very busy. (I'm willing to do what I can, but I'm really underqualified compared to these guys.) From what I saw at the SA jam, they've got a lot of guidance from a lot of experienced traceurs there. I don't know how the Houston, DFW, and BCS scenes are. Matthew was talking about putting together newbie workshop. I strongly urge him and the rest of the TXPK leaders to put this together very soon, not just as a single workshop, but as a standard workshop package. This way, we have a teaching tool ready to use all across Texas to use as we start to get the big surge of membership as a result of YouTube's Parkour day. The last thing we need is a lot of kids trying to do Parkour and ending up getting hurt because they don't understand what goes into it.

We are actually in the midst of planning that website. We will have one announced before may 17th for sure.
Aardvark. You are capable of doing anything. You seemed to understand the mindset and be a Parkour missionary. Most of us "higher ups" are so busy with other things we can hardly get out there and to the grass roots stuff. We need people like you to take initiatives like this. I appreciate it and I encourage you to keep it going.
Project: We can give it a project name and organize it. The only problem we have is copyrighting (over under through) and the permission of the grounds. So as long as we have that then blam we are good to go. Who can make them look good and last? Who is paying for materials?

I am busy very much of the time but considering the circumstances (this youtube takeover bringing in who knows how many newbs) I will be more than happy to switch around priorities to make sure these new people the most effective start that they can. The second we can place together dates I will start to clear my schedule.
And I think this guerilla advertising is definitely awesome, but we really need to get permission to do so, it would be against our philosophy to do otherwise. Plus if we get permission we have the ability to do much more than throw up a half-assed tag before getting caught. And I think we should hold off for a while on this idea simply because if we do it we should do it hardcore. It would be ridiculously awesome to get teams of people heading out all night one night and putting them up EVERYWHERE so the next day its all over the place. Perhaps get the media involved as well? And we would also need to place, or replace, our frontpage with an article explaining everything and then a link to our normal site.

All right, I've talked to the student organization center, and they said it was not allowed on the UT campus. I've got an appointment to talk to a legal adviser on next Wednesday about doing it off campus. I know that it's after the date of the YouTube takeover, but it's the soonest they had available. It does sound like we'll run into legal issues as some other people were saying, though. So I think that the chalking idea may be out. I'll keep you guys informed as I get more information.
As Matthew implied, though, we may be able to morph this into a different form that isn't considered graffiti. Any ideas?
Tim, thank you for reärranging your priorities to help the new people. I believe we'll need the leadership of all the cities to put together newbie workshops very soon. The YouTube takeover is happening this Friday. I would hate to see people get injured trying things out without proper instruction. I'll post this in a new thread as well.

Business, streets, shops all of those things we want to attack. We talk to people before FRIDAY. We let them know how important it is that we do this. We are an organization that informs and helps. We are here to help them. We need to get that message out there. We are important and needed. That is what angle we need. Don't just go in asking someone to do something. You have to make them feel they need you. HEHE, yea thats the nature of this.
So with that...we need to work fast. How about on WED you recruit some of you to go out and do this instead of training. Either way it is a GOOD IDEA. That is my idea.

I think at very least we can get a flyer together and run some copies and put them up legally. Buletin boards, stores, schools, etc.

Bats, can you do that? I know you're good with photoshop. A half-sheet should be sufficient, and we'd be able to put things up in coffee shops and diners around town if we can get them copied off quickly.
Levi, can you talk to the popcorn place maybe?
Another idea I had was this: on Friday, we can jam downtown and in Zilker. Just run around doing what we do, with shirts with the web address on 'em. We'll need white shirts and markers. Or maybe body paint. I think it'd be a fun run. Who's in?

I was actually thinking just kind of an eye catching design, the url really big, and the TxPk logo for maximum impact, and so it could be printed and distibuted everywhere.
Edit: Maybe a "Check out our Forums for up to date training times and discussions" and a "Beginners welcome"?

I like the second and third ones best, but if I made a choice it'd definitely be for 3, just because I like the use of pictures. I've made plenty of fliers in the past for TXPK and it always turned out the best were the ones with pictures. And if anyone wonders why we don't use the ones I've made in the past its because they aren't even CLOSE to current. Like pictures from a year and a half ago+ hahah.
